The Heritage School bags bronze at Hillcrest U20 Basketball Invitational Tournament

The Heritage school basketball team, popularly known as the Blue Bloods finished third at the just ended Hillcrest U20 Basketball Invitational Tournament in Mutare. This was a relatively new team made up of under 16s who are making the Transition to First team. The tournament had six schools participating namely Peterhouse, St Augustine’s, Watershed, St Georges, The Heritage and the hosts Hillcrest. The tournament was played on a round robin basis and final standings to determine the positions. The Heritage first game was against St Georges. The game was tense and the lead exchanged on numerous occasions. St Georges won it 28 – 17. The Boys then played straight after against Peterhouse Boys. Fatigue crept in and they could not sustain pressure from the fresh team. Final score The Heritage 7 and Peterhouse 21. The last game was against St Augustine’s the most exciting team at the tournament. The match was a thriller and the blue bloods played like warriors to dismantle St Augustine’s 34 to 15. At the end of day one we were in 5th position.

The second day our first match was against the hosts Hillcrest, who had the crowd behind them. At the end of the first half, The Heritage was 12 – 2 down and we looked down and out. The half time talk did wonders  and the boys rallied back in the second half and The Heritage won it at the end by one point 19 – 18. The next game was against Watershed. It proved to be a one – sided affair with the blue bloods bossing the owls around.  It was a comfortable 26 to 9 victory for our boys. Total scores were calculated and the Heritage ended in 3rd place, behind St Georges and Peterhouse. Well done to the boys for a good effort and all the best next season.
