From Nursery and Reception right through to Sixth Form we offer all our children a wealth of opportunity to discover their capabilities and skills outside of the classroom. Enthusiastic participation in extra curricular sport and club activities including the performing arts are vigorously sought.
We offer over 40 Activities
There are over 40 Activities after school at The Heritage School. Several clubs including many types of dance, many competitive and non completive sports to Drama and Debating societies, there’s are also academic clubs and revision classes. Or you could go to art, food science or even join our jazz band… the list goes on. Although most of the activities offered are free a few are chargeable, when we bring in an outside instructor or teacher or if the club or activity incurs a cost element such as food science, where the cost of buying in materials needs to be covered.
Dance & Drama
The Heritage School has become known for its strength in dance and drama. Lessons are offered in modern dance, ballroom, ballet, freestyle dance and speech and drama. Children from Year 5 and upwards can enjoy and be a part of these rewarding activities. We have at least one large drama performance every year, which gives all the children involved a chance to act on the “big stage” a variety of smaller productions are put on by the pupils every term, parents and friends are always invited to these performances during the school year.
Music
With three school choirs, a school Jazz band and Rock band, music plays an important part in the life of The Heritage School. From the Reception class children have a weekly music lesson with the music teachers. Children have the option to take lessons in a musical instrument of their choice (or singing lessons) from one of the school’s team of peripatetic music teachers for an additional charge. The choirs, orchestra and musical ensembles give regular concerts in the school and also in the local community. For children with outstanding musical talent music scholarships are available from Year 7.
Sport
Sport and fitness play a very important role at The Heritage School. In addition to being part of the curriculum, there are numerous opportunities to take part in a range of sports during games and PE lessons and after school. There is a busy schedule of sports fixtures and tournaments against other independent schools with children being selected to represent the school in rugby, cricket, swimming, basketball, netball and athletics from Year 3. In addition we run a comprehensive programme of ‘alternative’ sports such as outward bound activities and martial arts, we also hope to offer fencing and climbing, in
the near future. For children with considerable natural ability in one or more areas of sport there are scholarships available from Year 6.
