Primary School End of Term Round Up

The new term in the Junior Department began with energy and purpose, as routines and timetables quickly fell into place and classrooms came alive with learning. Class registrations, room allocations and administrative processes were completed efficiently, allowing teaching and learning to begin seamlessly from the very first day. My sincere thanks go to all staff for their careful preparation, which ensured a calm, confident and well-organised start for our pupils.

We were delighted to welcome our Year 2 students into the Junior Department, alongside a number of new pupils joining across the grades. The transition arrangements proved highly successful, with children settling quickly into their classes, forming new friendships and embracing their new routines with enthusiasm. Staff and senior pupils played an important role in supporting newcomers, helping them feel welcomed, confident and very much at home.

Our teaching team returned energised and ready for the year ahead. During the break, teachers devoted time to detailed planning, classroom preparation and professional development, ensuring that lessons began with clear objectives and a strong focus on engagement, curiosity and skill development. I commend their dedication to delivering stimulating, high-quality learning experiences from the very first day of term.

We were also proud to announce the new prefect appointments for the year. Congratulations to Namatai Tembo on her appointment as Head Girl and to Mark Chihambakwe as Head Boy. We look forward to the leadership they will provide and the positive example they will set in promoting responsibility, respect and service. The entire prefect body received training and guidance to support them in carrying out their duties with confidence throughout the term.

Our students have achieved outstanding success in TT Rock Stars, with Lihle Tapera ranked number one in Zimbabwe and Calvin Chisenye achieving an impressive third position nationally. These outstanding achievements reflect both individual dedication and the strong encouragement and support provided by our teaching team.

Sport continues to be a vibrant and energetic part of Junior Department life. Pupils participated enthusiastically in a wide range of activities, with cross-country and athletics forming the focus of the term. Inter-House competitions and fixtures against other schools provided valuable opportunities for pupils to demonstrate teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. These experiences continue to promote fitness, resilience and a strong sense of camaraderie across the year groups.

Academic progress has remained a central focus throughout the term, with pupils demonstrating steady growth in confidence, independence and achievement across all subject areas. Classrooms have been busy places of inquiry and discovery, with teachers providing rich learning opportunities that encourage critical thinking, creativity and collaboration. Particular emphasis has been placed on strengthening literacy and numeracy skills, ensuring that pupils build strong foundations for future learning. We are pleased with the positive attitude shown by pupils towards their work, and we commend them for their perseverance, curiosity and pride in their achievements.

The term also featured a number of memorable and well-supported community events that truly celebrated creativity, learning and global awareness. Book Day was a particular highlight, with each class selecting a themed book as inspiration, resulting in an eclectic and delightful mix of beloved book characters across the department. Pupils and staff embraced the occasion with wonderful costumes and imaginative outfits, creating a colourful celebration of storytelling and literature. The school was filled with excitement and laughter, as the day captured the joy of reading and reinforced the importance of nurturing a lifelong love of books.

Professional Day was equally inspiring, providing pupils with valuable insight into the wider world of work. We were fortunate to welcome guest speakers representing a diverse range of careers, who generously shared their experiences, knowledge and advice. These interactions sparked curiosity, broadened horizons and encouraged pupils to begin thinking about their own future aspirations.

Adding an international flavour to the term, French Day was a vibrant celebration of language and culture. Pupils enthusiastically practised speaking French throughout the day and proudly dressed in the colours of the French flag, creating a lively sea of blue, white and red across the school. The event provided a fun and engaging way to build confidence in language learning while deepening appreciation for global cultures.

These special themed days continue to enrich our curriculum, bringing learning to life in meaningful and memorable ways. Together, they reflect the vibrant spirit of The Heritage School, where learning is enriched through creativity, community and a celebration of every child’s potential.

As we reach the end of a busy and rewarding term, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, supportive parents and enthusiastic pupils for their continued commitment to making our Junior Department such a vibrant and nurturing learning community. The strong partnerships between home and school remain one of our greatest strengths, and it is through this shared support that our pupils continue to flourish. We look forward with excitement to the term ahead and to the many opportunities it will bring for continued growth, achievement and celebration.
